Living in a Small Town

Well guys, some weeks ago, my lecturer gave me an assignment to write an essay about deciding where to live. This is the first time for me two write an essay in English. However, I've tried my best to write it, and here is my essay :

Living in a Small Town
Why do some poeple prefer to life in a small town? Why do the others choose to live in a big city? There may be varied answers towards these questions. Each person has his own reasons on his preferance about which place he chooses to live in. However, in my personal view, living in a small town is more beneficial. Small towns provide healthier and safer life.
Living in a small town helps people to become healthier. There are several aspects related to stay healthy that we can find easily in small towns. First, most small towns have better air quality. As there are fewer industrial activities and lighter traffic, small towns usually have lower pollution rate than big cities do. Lower pollution rate means better air quality. We can say that the air in small towns is still fresh. Fresh air is one important key to stay healthy, particularly for those who have respiratory diseases. Fresh air is also good for our psyche as it makes us more relax. Second, small towns are places where we can get fresh food easily. In small towns, there are larger agricultural land and more farms, so that fresh food such as fresh vegetables, fruit, and meat are easier to find. As these kinds of food are rich of vitamins and nutrition, people can become healthier by consuming them. To sum up, healthier life can be achieved by living in a small town.
Living in a small town makes people feel safer. Small towns are considered to be safer than big cities based on two indicators, those are the crime rate and the characteristic of the inhabitants. First, the crime rate in small towns usually is low. As most small towns have small number of inhabitants, the social problems such as poverty and social class gap are not as crucial as they are in big cities. Poverty and social class gap can increase the crime rate in an area. As the result, most big cities have higher crime rate than small towns do. Next, most small towns inhabitants are friendly and helpful. It is normal for them to know each other very well. They also tend to help anyone who needs their help. For example, when there is someone who needs money to pay his hospital fee, people in small town will do their best to help him. These characteristics increase both security and sense of community among them. In short, people will feel safer when they live in a small town.
In conclusion, it is clear that people can get a lot of advantages of living in a small town. They can be healthier and feel safer. So if you want to choose a place to live, you had better to think about safety and health environment.
